The Canadian Textile Recovery Effort (CTRE) is a national, voluntary, industry led association aimed at increasing awareness around, and solutions for, the reuse and recycling of textiles. The CTRE was established as a result of the need to divert textile waste from Canadian landfills and in advance of the pending legislation on the Canada-wide Action Plan for Extended Producer Responsibility (Click to learn more). The CTRE works collaboratively with provincial governments’ waste diversion policies that set specific targets for diverting waste streams from landfills. The CTRE is comprised of textile industry members and non-governmental organizations.
For the purpose of the CTRE, textiles refer to pre and post-consumer garments, fabrics and piece goods. The CTRE will bring together all segments of the textile industry including manufacturers, retailers, consumers, charities, and recyclers working towards the common goal of sustainability.
